System Overview

The Student Information System (SIS) is a platform for managing the student lifecycle:

Academic Management - Courses, course sections, degrees, majors (with emphases), minors, requirement blocks, bulletins, and course materials. Scheduling lives on the section
Registration - Registration and enrollment, planning with prerequisite and corequisite checks, an approval lifecycle for registration requests, holds, waitlists, and seat reservation
Grading - Grade entry, GPA by academic level (term and cumulative), transcripts, grade rosters, and registrar-controlled grade release
Degree Audit - Per-program progress, institutional and graduation requirements, what-if analysis, waivers, course substitutions, transfer credit with a saved equivalency library, and graduation processing
Billing - Tuition, fees, billing methods, payment plans, refund schedules, upfront discounts, housing and meal plans, and student statements
People Management - Demographics, addresses, phones, emails, photos, identifiers (encrypted at rest), name history, visa statuses, and person merging
Cohorts - Cohort types and dated membership, Colleague-sourced and federal cohorts, and lockstep cohorts with their own registration screen
Authorization - Role-based access control with permission-node inheritance and scoping, dashboard tiles, session-scoped impersonation, and audit logging
Workflow - A configurable approval engine (leave of absence, registration approvals) and dynamic forms
Proxy Access - Parent and guardian access to a student's academic and financial data
LMS Integration - Data-driven connectors for Canvas, Moodle and D2L Brightspace: course shells from sections, enrollment sync, optional grade passback, and SIS CSV export
Interface Text - Any interface string reworded per institution, in English, Spanish or French, without a rebuild
Reporting - IPEDS, all-students, all-grades, and grade summary reports

Two subsystems are retired

Admissions — applications and decisions moved to a separate system in August 2026. Applicant records and dynamic forms remain here; see Admissions (retired).

Financial Aid — not administered in this system and deliberately unreachable; see Financial Aid (retired).

Both schemas and their rows survive, so historical data is intact.
