Prerequisites and Corequisites

Where requisites come from

Prerequisites and corequisites are maintained in Colleague and imported by migrate-requirements --steps=course-prereqs. Each Colleague rule says when its courses must be taken:

Colleague timingMeaning in the SIS
Prior (P)Prerequisite: completed, in progress or planned in an earlier term. Blocks planning unless overridden
Either (E)Prerequisite that may also be taken in the same term
Concurrent (C)Corequisite: taken in the same term (or already held). A warning in the cart, never a block

Minimum grades come from Colleague too (--steps=grades). A course counts toward a rule only with a grade at or above the rule's minimum (compared by grade points, so C- = 1.70 holds on every scale), or with a grade the rule explicitly allows — Colleague's "Minimum Grade C-, S" accepts an S. A course in progress, a planned retake and approved transfer credit always count. When a grade posts below a minimum, plans that depended on it are removed the same way as after a failing grade, and the student is emailed why.

The same minimums apply to degree audits, to the program requirements that carry one in Colleague. A requirement passed below its minimum shows as not met ("Minimum grade C- required; earned D"), can be planned again from the audit, and does not count toward the block's total. The course stays available to a requirement with a lower bar, such as an elective. The sequencing gate and the repeat check agree: a pass below a required minimum does not satisfy a 1xx/2xx deadline, and does not block re-registering for the course.

Rules marked recommended in Colleague are imported but not enforced. Change a rule in Colleague, not here; the next import picks it up, and a rule removed in Colleague stops applying.

Of the requisites added by hand with the steps below, only corequisites are checked (in addition to the imported ones). A prerequisite added here is stored but not enforced; add it in Colleague instead.
