Hold Impact

Registration

Not every hold stops you the same way. There are three levels:

What you seeCan you plan courses? Can you request registration? Are you enrolled?
InformationalYesYesYes
Blocks completionYesYes — and it can be approvedNot until the hold clears
Blocks everythingNoNoNo

A "blocks completion" hold does not make you start over

With this kind of hold — an unpaid balance is the usual one — you can still build your schedule and submit it, and your advisor can still approve it. Your request then waits rather than being rejected.

The moment the hold is cleared, you are enrolled automatically in the courses that were already approved. You do not need to re-register, and you do not lose your place. If the clearance happens outside business hours, an hourly check picks it up.

  • Check your holds before your registration window opens
  • Resolve them early — a "blocks everything" hold stops you planning at all
  • A hold's message tells you which office to contact

Grades and Transcripts

  • Some financial holds block grade viewing
  • Transcript requests may be blocked

Graduation

  • All holds must typically be resolved before graduation
  • Check with the Registrar for graduation clearance

Preventing Holds

  • Pay bills on time
  • Meet with your advisor regularly
  • Submit required documents promptly
  • Monitor your email for notices
